April is nationally recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). During this time advocates work to raise awareness about sexual violence and educate communities around the nation about how to prevent sexual assault. The theme for the 2018 Sexual Assault Awareness Month campaign is “Embrace Your Voice”! Sexual violence affects millions of men and woman. In the United States, 1 in 5 women have experienced completed or attempted rape and about 1 in 15 men have been made to penetrate someone in their lifetime. Most victims first experienced sexual violence before age 25. Sexual violence can happen to anyone and leads to many long-term physical and emotional health problems. If everyone does what they can do to raise awareness and change the culture around us then we can make a difference! The smallest change and make the biggest difference! Together we can make a difference!
